Jigme Dorji National Park
Jigme Dorji National Park is named after the late Jigme DorjiWangchuck, the third King of Bhutan. The park is where one will get to witness the pristine natural beauteousness, positioned in the Punakha district of Bhutan, stretching over an area of 4,316 square kilometers, it stands as the second largest national park in the country.
It was established in the year 1974 and is renowned for its diversity of ecosystems that range from alpine meadows to subtropical forests.
The park is an abode to several endangered species such as the snow leopard, Bengal tiger, takin, and the Himalayan blue sheep, along with glaciers and glaciated lakes beautifully dotting the vicinity. The park also has cultural importance embedded in its vibrant fabric with many ancient fortresses, known as dzongs, and monasteries located within its periphery.
